3.25. Permissions

In pgModeler, permissions generate the GRANT and REVOKE commands for the associated objects. Unlike all the other editing forms designed to handle one instance of an object, the permission editing form handles all permissions for a particular database object.

In PostgreSQL, permissions are composed of one or more roles and a set of privileges applied to the associated object. Only a few kinds of database objects can have permissions assigned to them, namely: database, tables, columns, views, sequences, functions, aggregates, languages, domains, types, schemas, tablespaces, foreign data wrappers, foreign servers, foreign tables, and procedures. The attributes of the permissions form are detailed below.

Permissions
#FieldGroup boxDescription
1Object

The signature of the object that receives the permissions. It can't be changed.

2Permission ID

The unique identifier of the permission being edited. It can't be changed by the user.

3Permissions

All the permissions configured for the object. Use this list to select, edit, or delete one or all of them.

4Disable permissions SQL code

Disables the SQL code (GRANT/REVOKE commands) generated for the permission being edited, using comment tokens (--). The permission is kept in the model.

5Roles

The roles that receive the privileges checked in the group Privileges, chosen from the roles of the model. If you want to apply the privileges to all roles of the database (PUBLIC), leave the list empty. The GRANT OPTION boxes are enabled only when the list has at least one role.

6GrantPrivileges

Creates a GRANT permission.

7RevokePrivileges

Creates a REVOKE permission.

8CascadePrivileges

This option is used only for revokes (it is enabled when Revoke is selected and there is at least one role in the list) and causes the revocation to cascade. In other words, when a role that granted a specific privilege to other roles (with GRANT OPTION) has that privilege revoked, all the other roles will have the same privilege revoked as well.

9SELECTPrivileges

Includes the privilege SELECT in the permission.

10GRANT OPTION (SELECT)Privileges

Allows the roles to grant the privilege SELECT to other roles (GRANT OPTION).

11INSERTPrivileges

Includes the privilege INSERT in the permission.

12GRANT OPTION (INSERT)Privileges

Allows the roles to grant the privilege INSERT to other roles (GRANT OPTION).

13UPDATEPrivileges

Includes the privilege UPDATE in the permission.

14GRANT OPTION (UPDATE)Privileges

Allows the roles to grant the privilege UPDATE to other roles (GRANT OPTION).

15DELETEPrivileges

Includes the privilege DELETE in the permission.

16GRANT OPTION (DELETE)Privileges

Allows the roles to grant the privilege DELETE to other roles (GRANT OPTION).

17TRUNCATEPrivileges

Includes the privilege TRUNCATE in the permission.

18GRANT OPTION (TRUNCATE)Privileges

Allows the roles to grant the privilege TRUNCATE to other roles (GRANT OPTION).

19REFERENCESPrivileges

Includes the privilege REFERENCES in the permission.

20GRANT OPTION (REFERENCES)Privileges

Allows the roles to grant the privilege REFERENCES to other roles (GRANT OPTION).

21TRIGGERPrivileges

Includes the privilege TRIGGER in the permission.

22GRANT OPTION (TRIGGER)Privileges

Allows the roles to grant the privilege TRIGGER to other roles (GRANT OPTION).

23Add Permission

Adds a permission with the roles and privileges currently configured.

24Update Permission

Updates the permission selected in the list with the current roles and privileges.

25Cancel Operation

Cancels the editing of the selected permission and clears the form.
